About Uchida Laboratory

The history of "Uchida Laboratory" is as follows:

In April 1997, Akira Uchida was arrived at his post as a junior assistant in College of Industrial Technology, Nihon University, and became a staff in "Ohtani Laboratory", after he completed graduate school master course of Electrical Engineering, Division of Industrial Technology, Nihon University. His teacher was Dr. Yoshihiko Ohtani, professor at Nihon University. Prof. Ohtani researched about illuminating engineering and he especially worked on the research on the lighting design that considered the shadow.
Akira Uchida became an assistant professor (a parmanent lecturer) from a research assistant, and the name of the laboratory became "Ohtani and Uchida Laboratory" from "Ohtani Laboratory" in April 2004.
In March, 2010, Prof. Ohtani became a retirement age and "Uchida Laboratory" was established in April of the same year.

Dr. Uchida works on the research based on the illuminating engineering that considers the energy saving and the environmental loading reduction to achieve a comfortable visual environment.

The keywords of the research are as follows:

  • Lighting Design: Measurement of Illuminace and Luminance, Illuminance Calculation
  • SSL(Solid State Lighting): LED(Light Emitting Diode), OLED(Organic light-emitting diode)
  • Visual Perception and Color Vision: Subjective Evaluation about Brightness, Color and Comfort

The research works are summarized in this page.
